Water

In our area, just as it is all over our planet, water is life. That's why we focus on preserving the Spokane aquifer (the sole source of drinking water for more than 500,000 people) and involving the community in a cooperative, bistate effort to restore the Spokane River/Coeur d'Alene watershed to health.

Again, knowledge inspires action. We work to raise public awareness about the toxic legacy of North Idaho mining operations and its effects on the Spokane River, the Coeur d'Alene River, and Lake Coeur d'Alene. And, through our toxics education program, we protect at-risk populations from the health dangers associated with exposure to chemical and heavy metal pollution.

Keeping the River Healthy:
A Case Study

As steadfast proponents of restoring the Spokane River, we gathered conservationists, industry spokespeople, and state and local government representatives together to address the amount of phosphorus entering the river. Our joint plan will help increase dissolved oxygen in the river, which is essential for healthy fish and plant life.
