Mission: The mission of Ponderosa Pine Project (PPP) is to protect, preserve and facilitate healthy Ponderosa pine stands throughout the Spokane area.
Goal 1: PPP strives to seek mutually beneficial solutions to tree protection for all interested parties, including developers and citizens.
How do we do this?
-
Align City and County policies in Spokane with our mission by changing current policy where needed and creating ordinances and incentives leading to protection on land proposed for new development and on existing developments.
-
Actively engage the private sectors (business, developers, and contractors, private firms) to participate in creation of ordinances and incentives that will lead to practical solutions appropriate for the Spokane area.
-
Actively engage the general public to garner support for policy change and to ensure that the public values and concerns are addressed.
*Collaborative work on LID incentive program.
*Collaborative work on tree protection ordinance and incentives.
Goal 2: PPP strives to promote the economic and green infrastructure benefits, as well as the aesthetic importance of our area's most ubiquitous tree to both public and private sectors.
How do we do this?
- Change negative perceptions and dispel common myths through a public information campaign which will provide factual and scientific information about the benefits of ponderosa pines and their unique adaptation to our arid environment.
- Collaborate with city, county, and local universities on a Ponderosa Pine canopy analysis.
- Provide opportunities through workshops, informational speakers, and literature.
Goal 3: PPP strives to re-establish the Spokane area to its natural state as a ponderosa pine forest.
How do we do this?
- Replant Ponderosa pines where and when appropriate throughout the Spokane area with an additional focus on maintenance needed for healthy stands.
