Forest Plan Revisions
The National Forest Management Act, which Congress passed into law in 1976, requires each unit of our national forest system to create forest plans, and update them every 15 years. Since the national forests in our region were adopted in the late 1980s, the U.S. Forest Service is undergoing the process to create Revised Forest Plans.
The Lands Council participated in the public process when the original Forest Plans were written, and we have provided our input at each step of the way as the revision process moves forward.
As part of our Old Growth Campaign, and in working with sets of diverse stakeholders, The Lands Council has proposed scientifically-based standards and guidelines for protecting, connecting, and restoring old-growth on the national forests in our region.
