The Lands Council Hosts "Picnic with the Beavers"

What: "Picnic with the Beavers"
Fun for the whole family! Learn about The Lands Council's "Beaver Solution", the important features of the Liberty Lake watershed & challenges of managing beavers, and take a hike to see a real beaver dam! Also, members of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe will be on hand to teach language lessons and discuss the role of beavers in their traditional culture.
When: Sunday, September 20, 2009
Time: 12:30-3:00
Where: Liberty Lake County Park, 3707 S. Zephyr Road
To get there: take I-90 east to Liberty Lake exit, go east on Appleway to Molter, then go south to Valleyway, then east to Zephyr.

What to Bring: Light snacks and drinks will be provided. Please bring a picnic lunch for you and your family/friends to enjoy. Also, please bring binoculars to spot beaver! Some will be provided, but supply your own if possible.
Schedule for the afternoon:
• 12:30-arrive to enjoy a picnic lunch. Snacks/drinks provided.
• 1:00-1:30- Mike Petersen & Brian Walker of The Lands Council will introduce information about our organization, our Beaver Solution project, and the benefits of beavers to our watershed. BiJay Adams of Liberty Lake Sewer & Water will discuss the beaver that exist in/around Liberty Lake and management issues.
• 1:30-2:15-Participants will split into two groups. On half of group will take an easy hike to see beaver dams. The other half will listen to Felix Aripa, a tribal elder of the Couer d'Alene tribe, speak about the significance of beaver and take part in a language lesson by Raymond Brinkman from the Coeur d'Alene Tribe.
• 2:15-3:00-Participants will switch activities.
