Job Description:

The Lands Council is seeking two dynamic, self-motivated, hard-working, and reliable interns to work with the Conservation Programs Director this summer on Spokane River toxics outreach and education.  Primary job responsibilities include the following:

·         Perform one-on-one outreach and education to the greater Spokane community (focusing on homeless and low-income individuals) on the health risks of Spokane River toxics.  This outreach will be conducted primarily along the river and at homeless shelters/social service organizations.

·         Survey participants on river usage, fish consumption, and knowledge of toxic contamination.

·         Share information with our target populations on contaminated/hazardous sites and clean-up projects, including time-sensitive action items such as comment periods and public hearings.

·         Enter survey data into statistical software package as directed by Spokane Regional Health District staff.

·        Deliver presentations on the health risks of Spokane River toxics to neighborhood   councils, community organizations, and social service agencies.

·         Distribute and post health advisories and other educational materials.

·         Staff educational tables at major community events.

·         Assist in updating educational materials as necessary.

·         Assist Conservation Programs Director in other program activities.

Pending anticipated grant funding, this is a paid internship (stipend) with a time commitment of 25-30 hours per week for 8-10 weeks between June and August (flexible stop and start time within this range).  Interns must be available to work evenings and weekends.  Are you a friendly, outgoing "people-person" who is very comfortable approaching and talking to diverse individuals and who has a passion for environmental justice and public health issues?  Do you work well independently and as part of a team?  Do you like to be outside?  If so, please send a resume, cover letter, and three references to Kat Hall, Conservation Programs Director, khall@landscouncil.org, (509) 209-2403 by April 19th, 2013.  Thank you!
